Shiatsu for Neck Pain in Bucks County PA

Are you suffering from regular headaches, neck pain, and/or pain in the upper back?

As our lives become more sedentary and ‘screen time’ in front of our multiple devices becomes the norm, our postures have suffered. The strain placed on muscles in the upper back and neck creates extra pressures and imbalances that can lead to pain.

While medication may be effective in dealing with the pain in the short term, it does not address the root causes of the problem.

Shiatsu is a proven and effective way to relieve pain and restore normal function in the neck and upper back area, reducing pressure on the muscles and freeing up movement again.

Our qualified and experienced shiatsu practitioners at the Cryo Spa Natural Healing Center in Bucks County PA can help with long-term relief of your neck pain.

What is causing your neck pain?

Unless you have had whiplash from a car accident or sports injury of some type, your neck pain may be a result of postural strains.

Because of the way you sit, tension and pain patterns can create muscle imbalances. Particularly common these days is a long-term sitting posture with arms outstretched in front of you and with hunched shoulders–as with office workers at computers. This can shorten some of the muscles in the chest, neck, abdominal muscles, and the front of the arms.

In particular, one side of the neck can become stronger and shorter. This may twist and strain the muscles on the other side (just like an over-stretched rubber band), resulting in pain that can hamper the ability to sleep, work, and perform normal daily activities.

In order to restore normal function, we need to create balance in the shoulders, neck, and head again.

How can shiatsu help with neck pain?

“Studies on acupressure provided fairly strong evidence for its use in the treatment of pain.”

Shiatsu: A Review of the Evidence – Prof. Nicola Robinson et al

We have helped hundreds of patients in the Bucks County area relieve their neck pain and headaches, using a combination of shiatsu, trigger points work, and Thai massage stretching.

Your shiatsu practitioner will find the primary reason for the structural imbalances and apply pressure to selective points in the surrounding and supporting muscles and add other modalities as required. This will clear blockages in the energy meridians and lead to better balancing in the upper back, shoulder, and neck area.

You will also learn which postures you should avoid to prevent your neck pain from returning. Most notably:

  • Improper desk postures
  • Holding a child on one hip for too long
  • Sleeping on the stomach
  • Carrying a shoulder bag
  • Driving for long periods without proper seating

Dietary advice, ergonomic suggestions, and a series of exercises from our practitioners will also help you relax, sleep better at night, and maintain continual progress between your shiatsu appointments.

How can you be sure it works?

Shiatsu has become a critical part of many patients’ programs for neck pain:

“I often had headaches and problems with my neck. When I was sitting in a car I needed support for my neck. After the first two sessions with Lucy I felt much better. She did what she called a passive adjustment on cervical vertebras and gave me exercises to maintain positive changes that happened during treatments. My neck feels much stronger, headaches are very rare now. I really appreciate having exercises on my hands as I feel pretty confident that I have some control of the problems if they occur.”
